Summer 2017 - The Story So Far
With summer coming to a close, and the Autumn equinox just around the corner, it's worth looking back at a successful first season at On The Hill. Here's a quick rundown of what we've been up to this year.
We began the year with a number of well attended tree planting volunteer days which were great fun and enabled us to plant over 1000 woodland trees on the hill and 300 orchard trees in the garden field. We are thrilled with this and already the trees are looking established and healthy -despite a very dry spring!
Later in the year, we built a compost toilet and shower block before welcoming in the first of the programmes - Bristol Steiner School during a hot week in July. This first programme was followed the week after by a slightly longer programme with Exeter Steiner School. Both programmes were enormous fun and a huge success - made possible by a fantastic team of leaders and volunteers. The children on the programmes made baskets, felt, planted seeds in the garden, built a bridge to the camping area, made a clay pizza oven and constructed a chicken coop - amongst other things.
We a grateful to the effort and support given to us by so many people including those who worked on the programmes, volunteers helping to get the site ready and people who lent us equipment. We are excited for the future and already have plans for the coming season - watch this space!
