"I will take away a renewed appreciation for life away from technology, and a more open mind to the world"

Young person, Hill Tribe 2022

About The Camp

Hill Tribe is a unique, magical and transformative camp for young people.

Our team of creative, dynamic and experienced facilitators bring groups of young people together to live here in the beautiful Teign Valley in South Devon.

Over 6 days we'll explore ways in which we can meet the present and future with creativity, courage, capacity and joy both individually and in community.

"Hill tribe is an antidote to our risk averse culture, production line schooling, over stimulated, nature deprived lives."

Jo Clark, Founder of On the Hill and Hill Tribe

What is involved?

Rhythm of the Day:

The camp is created around the notion of stepping into yourself, seeing yourself and being witnessed. In order to do this, we will start our day together in stillness before moving up the hill to have our morning circle and sit-spot.

This early part of our day is in quietness.

Once up the hill we will come together again to create something beautiful, whether this is a fire, song, words or space. As the camp progresses, so will the abundance of beauty in creating our meaningful space for our mornings up on the hill.

Once down from the hill we will share our first meal together before stepping into being of service, whether this is to the land, or in the kitchen. This might look like harvesting potatoes or chopping onions for our dinner.

After our afternoon of work there will be free time for you to be with other people or by yourself. You may choose to spend this time in the cargo net, playing on the rope swing, reading a book, or sat by the ponds. This is a time for you to just be.

We will then come together for Camp Care! This will look like tending to the site, preparing  dinner and generally making the site beautiful for our evening together.

We will then meet in the Cob Barn to engage in a session of taiko drumming. This is an opportunity for you to step into yourself and a new skill, to be witnessed, to engage in an empowering  and accessible musical practice, to co-create and to cross thresholds.

After our shared dinner we will come together for an evening of fireside conversations, perhaps some pinch-pot making and playing games before bed.

Together

We will create a tribe. We are agreeing to live side by side in community, contributing to the camp and engaging in the offerings. We will work respectfully with an individual's wishes to push their own boundaries as we step into ourselves and are witnessed. This will support you to be yourself, not what others want you to be.

About Hill Tribe

Hill Tribe was created in 2020 in response to the uncertain times in which we find ourselves. The On the Hill team wanted to help young people meet the present and the future with joy, a sense of connection, capacity, courage and creativity.

Five years on, this iteration of Hill Tribe led by Paddy and Hannah offers young people a slightly different experience of On the Hill. This year in addition to our journeys up the hill each morning and the work on the farm, we will make use of the Cob Barn each day where we will explore our physical creativity in relationship with ourselves, each other and the drums.
